How to play the virtual piano with your computer keyboard or screen
You can play this online virtual piano in two ways. The first is to click directly on the keys shown on the screen. On a phone or tablet, touch the center of each key to avoid slipping. On a computer, the mouse works well for testing one note at a time, comparing two notes, and building a chord without worrying about finger position yet.
The second option is to use your computer's physical keyboard. The letters shown in the widget correspond to the keys of the online digital piano. Press one letter at a time and watch which key on the screen lights up or produces sound. If a letter does not respond, click inside the page, close any active menus or text fields, and check whether another window is capturing focus. On a laptop, also check whether a function key has changed how the letters behave.
Now do a 60-second test. Play five consecutive notes, stop for two seconds, and repeat the same pattern. Then alternate a low note and a high note eight times. Count quietly: 1, 2, 3, 4. This exercise shows whether you are finding the keys and maintaining a steady pulse. Use the metronome at 60 BPM; play one note on each beat and move to 72 BPM only after getting eight consecutive repetitions right.
To test a chord, press C, E, and G at the same time, release, count to four, and repeat. Then play the three notes separately, from lowest to highest. Alternating between a block chord and an arpeggio helps you hear the same combination in two formats. If the sound becomes unclear, reduce the number of notes and play each one in a more widely spaced register of the keyboard.
