How to take the online voice test, step by step
Open the tool with the Cantivy page visible in your browser and allow microphone access when your device asks. Choose a relatively quiet environment. The test records the sound reaching the microphone, so fans, televisions, traffic, keyboards, and other voices can interfere with the reading.
- Place your phone or computer approximately 20 to 40 centimeters from your mouth. Do not press the device against your face.
- Breathe without forcing and choose a comfortable note to begin, preferably in the middle of your range.
- Sing a simple vowel, such as “ah,” at a steady volume without breathiness.
- Move downward gradually in small intervals, such as semitones or whole steps, without pushing your throat.
- Return to your starting range and move upward gradually, maintaining the same vowel and intensity.
- Sustain each note for at least half a second. For better confirmation, hold the boundary notes for about 1 second when doing so does not cause tension.
- Repeat the lowest and highest notes two or three times. If the result changes significantly, rest for 30 seconds and try again.
The tool marks the lowest and highest notes you sustain during this time. It does not look only for a quick sound, a high-pitched noise, or a momentary passage. You do not need to rush through your range. If a note sounds for an instant but disappears immediately afterward, it may not represent your usable range at that moment.
To check the pitches, compare the result with the virtual piano. If you still confuse names such as C, D, and E, consult the keyboard notes. C4 is middle C. This reference appears in the ranges used by the test and makes it easier to read your vocal range.
Take a first measurement without extensive warm-up and write down the result, the time, and the vowel used. At another time, repeat the test after singing gently for 3 to 5 minutes. The difference between the two measurements shows how the condition of your voice affects the result. To save examples and compare attempts, also use the in-browser audio recorder.
If your throat tightens, your voice becomes rough, or you need to increase the volume significantly to reach a note, stop exploring at that point. The test is meant to observe your voice's response, not to prove that you can reach a particular limit.
